Most new vehicles being manufactured today will have some
advanced technologies including automatic steering, pre-collision braking and
automatic braking.
These vehicles are designed to automatically brake in the event that a pedestrian crosses the vehicles path.
Will these systems include an audio and visual alert? Will these alerts
silence the radio? Will these alerts cause the driver to overreach and take
evasive action? Can you turn these
features off? I hope the sensors are
better than the current back up sensors available today. I have had more than one obstacle mystically
move while the sensor is going off.
Will there be an alert limit? After all there are alerts for, backing up,
changing lanes, cross traffic, dynamic radar, blind spot, vehicle lane
positioning, parking assist…and so on! This kind of technology is great but how
will it be delivered to the driver in a NON-distracting manner. I agree it would be beneficial to have all drivers’
more informed and aware of what’s going on with surrounding traffic. Technology is great but how will manufactures
educate drivers on how to properly use these features so they can enhance rather than compromise safety. There are still a lot of drivers who still
don’t know how to properly use anti-lock brakes or traction control.
