Anti-spam Legislation: July 1, 2014

ARE YOU READY?

I believe the easiest way to understand this new legislation is not to look at what is not allowed but the opposite.  Under the new anti spam law, you don’t need consent to email/solicit friends and family, respond to an inquiry, correspondence between co-workers, messages that contain information regarding legal rights or obligations and finally, political parties and charities have free reign.   It’s time to start vetting your contact list and make sure you understand the CASL definition of “expressed consent”.  The fines have been rumored to be upwards of $1,000,000.

For details on the new law please refer to http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/casl-lcap.htm
